Our Experience & History of Laser Vision Correction at Bense Vision
Since its inception in 1986, Bense Vision has been in the forefront of ophthalmology in Atlantic Canada. Dr. Bense is the most experienced LASIK surgeon in the province and is also one of the most experienced laser surgeons in Canada.
Dr. Bense, is a member in good standing with at least seven national and international ophthalmic societies. He was past Chief of Ophthalmology at The Health Sciences Centre and is still an Assistant Ophthalmic Professor at MUN.
Our laser story began in 1994 and has been highlighted by more than 15,000 laser procedures. We are particularly proud of the outstanding word-of-mouth referrals that make Bense Vision the most established and trusted laser vision correction providers in Eastern Canada.
1993
Bense Vision is founded. Dr. M. Bense performs the 1st RK procedure in Atlantic Canada. He trained under world famous surgeons like Dr. Slava Federov, Dr. Ellis at Berkeley, and many others.
1994
Dr. Bense performs the 1st PRK procedure in Atlantic Canada, using VISX 20/20B laser technology
Dr. Bense performs the 1st PTK procedure in Atlantic Canada, using VISX 20/20B laser technology
1997
Dr. Bense performs the 1st LASIK procedure in Atlantic Canada, using VISX 20/20B laser technology and the Moria microkeratome. Several upgrades occur over the next 15 years.
2000
Dr. Bense introduces several new procedure to Newfoundland:
RLE (Refractive Lens Exchange)
LRI (Limbal Relaxing Incisions) for Astigmatism
Iris Registration Technology & Pupil Tracking laser technology
2007
NASA and TopGun schools approve iLASIK for jetfighter pilots. Dr. Bense introduces iLASIK to NL in 2007.
