Standard & Custom LASIK
LASIK BY BLADE
These 2 traditional and classic procedures were 1st performed in Atlantic Canada by Dr. Mike Bense over a decade ago. However, they are no longer being offered at Bense Vision anymore as they require the use of steel blades to perform. Bense Vision (like most leading LASIK authorities) has since abandoned the use of all steel blades in LASIK surgery as we consider the technology dated and inferior.
The procedure: In LASIK and Custom LASIK, a portion of the front of the eye (A 100 – 160 microns thick flap) is crafted and cut from the eye mechanically with a hand held steel blade, then lifted out of the way so as to allow an excimer laser to vaporize about 10-100 microns of cornea permanently over a 3 to 30 second time span. The ‘flap’ is then replaced to its original position. Most people return to work within 24-48 hours and it is estimated that over 34 million people have undergone this laser eye treatment worldwide.
Since Bense iLASIK centre and SurgiSpa® 1st introduced LASIK to Eastern Canada many years ago, we have learnt a thing or two about LASIK complications and how to put people’s fears about LASIK to rest!! The main thing we learnt was that by simply stopping the use of these old fashioned steel blades to mechanically make a ‘flap’, we virtually eliminated every single LASIK complication overnight!!
Believe it or nor, most discount LASIK clinics and or franchises, still use hand held steel blades to mechanically do all or most of their LASIK cases. We have totally abandoned the use of mechanical hand held steel blades at our LASIK centre and make a solemn promise: No More Blades Ever Again!!
