What is Laser Vision Correction?
Laser Vision Correction
Laser vision correction treatments are generally known as either LASIK (when the procedure requires the use of a flap) or PRK (a surface treatment not requiring the use of a flap).
LASIK was invented 20 years ago, and today there are literally dozens of ways that LASIK is done. Modern techniques of today bear little in common to LASIK of 20 years ago and there is a movement at foot today to rename LASIK to more closely reflect the type of technology used in your procedure. For example: Blade-free, customized iLASIK™ of today bears no resemblance to the mechanical steel blade Standard LASIK or Custom LASIK of yesteryear.
PRK has similarly been replaced with ASA (Advanced Surface Ablation) which again, bears little resemblance to the rather painful PRK procedure that Dr. Bense introduced to Atlantic Canada in 1994. So, when comparing one procedure with another, please do your research!! Do not compare apples to oranges!!
These 2 types of procedures (flap and no flap) are performed with anaesthetic eye drops to prevent pain during the procedure. These treatments are usually carried out on both eyes at the same visit, and you will only be in the treatment room for around 20 minutes, with the laser being applied for only a matter of minutes.
Some people may only be found suitable for either a flapped or no-flap procedure, whereas some people may be suitable for both, in which case you could choose which one you prefer. The only way to find out for sure which you are suitable for is to have a free eye surgery consultation where your personal advisor will discuss your options.
Bense Vision™ is the premier laser vision correction facility in Atlantic Canada. We only offer the 2 most sought after and safest LASIK procedures in the world, namely intraLASIK™ and iLASIK™. iLASIK™ is the safest and most advanced form of LASIK on the planet today, and only performed at Bense Vision in St. John’s and NL, at very competitive prices with the actual surgery performed by the surgeon who introduced LASIK to Eastern Canada over a decade ago, Dr. Mike Bense.
